Warren Gatland believes Wales can win the Six Nations in his last year as head coach.
The New Zealander will leave his post after this year’s World Cup.
Wales have won the Six Nations three times during Gatland’s 12 years in charge – in 2008, 2012 and 2013.
The Welsh will begin their 2019 campaign against France in Paris on 1 February.
‘I think we’ve got a great chance of winning the Six Nations if we win that opening game, which is going to be our toughest,’ said Gatland. ‘We feel in as good a position as anybody to do well.’
Wales will then play Italy (away), England (home), Scotland (away) and reigning champions Ireland (home).
‘The whole thing about Six Nations is the momentum,’ Gatland added. ‘If you can win your first couple of games, you have a great chance of being in contention on the last weekend.’
Wales are on a nine-match winning run, with their last loss at home being to the All Blacks in 2017.
