Griffons inside centre Duncan Amsterdam was named Craven Week Hero of the Day for his supreme three-try performance against the Blue Bulls XV on Thursday.
The Griffons dominated their more fancied opponents from the outset and held a deserved 33-5 lead at half-time. They added a further 18 points to their tally to inflict a humiliating 28-point defeat on the Pretoria-based team. The Griffons outscored the Bulls Bulls XV seven to four.
Amsterdam opened the scoring in the 10th minute when he latched onto a pass in midfield and snuck through a gap to score over the posts. His second – and Griffons’ third – was scored in similar fashion, only this time he ran at an angle and handed off a defender first before dotting down next to the upright.
The hard running centre completed his hat-trick in the last minute when he powered his way through three tackles to score a long range effort.
