Injured Springbok lock RG Snyman has opened up about one of the most difficult years of his life, on and off the field.
The 26-year-old recently made his comeback from burns suffered during a fire-pit accident involving Munster teammates Damian de Allende and CJ Stander earlier this year, which extended his absence due to his debut season at Munster being cut short by a long-term knee injury.
Snyman made his long-awaited return when he featured off the bench during Munster’s win over the Stormers in round two of the Vodacom United Rugby Championship but, nine minutes after coming on against Scarlets the following week, the same knee ligaments gave way and he was forced off with a season-ending injury.
Bok blow as Snyman’s knee gives way again
Snyman’s last Test appearance was in the 2019 Rugby World Cup final, but the disappointment of missing the series against the British & Irish Lions was overshadowed by the death of his mother, Annelie.
“It’s been a rollercoaster in terms of emotion and disappointment,” Snyman told Rapport. “Every time I have something going for me, there’s a setback.
“This year I’ve had to deal with injuries, disappointment, flames, death and heartbreak.
“Fortunately, I”m a positive person. I won’t let this get me down. I’ll come back stronger and better.”
